My Top Base Products (NARS, Bourjois, Laura Mercier, NIOD)

Primer has to go to the Soap and Glory One Heck Of A Blot primer. I use to go for the more silicon based primers, now, the thought kind of makes me cringe. One Heck Of A Blot almost feels like a light lotion when you apply it, it sinks into the skin immediately and disappears. Usually, this would be a big "No-no" for me, as I usually like primers to practically blur out the features on my face when I apply them (hence why I liked silicone based ones). So it doesn't really smooth out/fill in pores or make your skin look flawless immediately but it does make your makeup stay in place all day. And really, isn't that what a primer is for? I have oily skin, so makeup sliding off my face is a main issue for me, alongside going patchy and weird looking throughout the day. The main areas of weird patchyness, would be my chin and between my eye brows, since using One Heck Of A Blot this is not a problem for me anymore. It keeps my makeup in place and smooth all day. I do still get shiny, which I don't really mind as I tend to like a glow to my skin and it is never anything over the fine line of "glow" to "greasy".

For foundation is has to be Bourjois Healthy Mix. You know when something is just good? Well, this is how I feel about Healthy Mix. I love the coverage for a start. It is so buildable and covers well, without looking heavy on the skin. I find it blends in seamlessly and is really easy to layer up for more coverage. It sits lovely on the skin and lasts really well throughout the day (thanks One Heck Of A Blot primer) It gives a natural/dewy finish but again, never anything too intense for my already oily skin. I sometimes need to blot my nose and forehead but that is pretty much it.

Recently I have whipped out the NIOD Photography Fluid again. This time though, I have been mixing it in with my Healthy Mix foundation to recreate a luminous, glowy concoction for my face. I do one pump of Healthy Mix, followed by one (large) drop of Photography Fluid, and then another pump of Healthy Mix and mix it together. I just love how this looks. If you want that natural lit from within glow, NIOD Photography Fluid is your guy. You can use it as a primer too, on it's own, or like I do, mixed in with my foundation. Using it on it's own first as a base, amps up the glow even more. It isn't glittery or sparkly at all, just naturally radiant on the skin.

I quite often find myself sitting thinking about how much I bloody love NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer. And when I am applying it, I get the overwhelming urge to buy at least 20 back ups- you know, just incase. This concealer is hands down, the best concealer I have ever tried. I only wear it when I want something more full coverage i.e nights out or when I just have one of those days where I just want to slap as much makeup on my face as possible (we all get them.) It is so full coverage, it looks flawless. It blends beautifully over the skin, espeically with fingers then a damp sponge. Despite the combination of a high coverage formula and me generously slapping it all over my face, it never looks heavy or cakey on the skin. It sits beautifully, wears well and looks fantastic. I can't rave about this product enough. It is so worth the £22 price tag.

And last but not least, when you're done applying copious amounts of concealer, foundation and glow enhancing primer/base things to your face, you need a powder to set it all down. My favourite has to be the Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder. The hype is real. I was highly skeptical of this product- £29 for a translucent powder? Yes. But oh my, is it worth it. I honestly did not think a powder- a translucent powder at that- could make this much of a difference to my makeup. I'll start of by saying it is invisible on the skin, no matter how heavily you apply it. It sets makeup in the most flawless but natural looking way and wears beautifully throughout the day. It never looks cakey on my skin, it just meshes beautifully to give a soft, natural finish. It will set down and add a slightly more matte appearance the skin but not in a way to make your makeup appear flat or dull, it almost just "blurs", to create that soft focus look.
